Description

A savory caramelized onion tart with a flaky crust and rich, sweet onion filling.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 pre-made pie crust
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat butter and olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. Add onions, sugar, and salt. Cook for 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
  4. Roll out the pie crust and place it in a tart pan.
  5. Spread caramelized onions evenly over the crust.
  6. Sprinkle cheese on top.
  7. Brush edges of crust with beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use a mandoline for even onion slices.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
