- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 pre-made pie crust
- 1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat butter and olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add onions, sugar, and salt. Cook for 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
- Roll out the pie crust and place it in a tart pan.
- Spread caramelized onions evenly over the crust.
- Sprinkle cheese on top.
- Brush edges of crust with beaten egg.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Use a mandoline for even onion slices.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
